27 – Breakfast for the Wind Dragons

Feilong feels the wind beginning to swirl around in an ever stronger circle.
«We’ve arrived,» Father said.
«Now spread your wings and let yourself drift. Take in as much energy as you can while you do.»
Feilong looked at his father in puzzlement.
«Wait here, I’ll show you.»
Father spread his wings wide and let himself fall into the wind. The air carried him, turning with the storm, and soon Feilong couldn’t see him any more, as the pillar of cloud blocked the view. But then Father appeared again on the other side and flew back towards him.
«See? That’s what I mean. We’ll circle the pillar of cloud a few times and have breakfast while we’re at it. Fill yourself right up with energy. When you’ve had enough, just leave the whirling storm and wait for me.»
Feilong was still a little unsure, but carefully copied what his father had done.
Wheee! This was fun!
He dived deeper into the whirlwind and let himself be carried round several times. He no longer knows where he entered the storm, but he can feel his body filling with energy. It is far more energy than he has ever absorbed while meditating in the cave.
When he felt he had enough, he left the storm and hovered at its edge. He saw his father flash past him three more times before flying over to join him.
«That was great fun!» Feilong said, beaming.
«I’m glad. Storms are a way for us wind dragons to fill ourselves properly with energy. So if you ever feel drained, keep an eye out for a storm. You will learn other ways to recharge your energy, but storms are the most effective way.»
Father looked around, got his bearings for a moment, then pointed in one direction.
«We need to head that way now.»
