06 – Cloud Jumping

As Feilong flew along the river with his mother, there was an incredible amount to discover. The river grew wider; smaller rivers and streams flowed into it. It wound its way through the land, twisting several times as the landscape began to change.
Feilong discovered countless things, which his mother explained to him as they flew. He stored everything in his great dragon brain, as if he were taking photographs with explanations.
Then, ahead of them in the sky, appeared a cluster of soft, white, fluffy shapes. Feilong pointed his head towards them.
«Those are clouds,» his mother explained.
«Shall we play Cloud Jumping?» she suggested.
«That sounds fun! How do we play it?»
«You simply fly up into a cloud from below until you come out at the top, then dive into the next one from above, and so on,» she explained.
«Wow! Yes, let’s go!»
Feilong shot towards the first cloud before his mother could say another word. She flew after him. Feilong plunged into the cloud, but what was that? The cloud was wet!
He flew higher until he broke through the top of it again. But he struggled, because his wings had become damp.
His mother reached him. «Give your wings a few swings and they’ll dry. Just fly a little above the cloud.»
No sooner had his wings dried than Feilong darted straight through the next cloud.
«This is fun!» he called joyfully to his mother.
He now flew through every cloud that crossed their path.
«We should take a little break,» his mother suggested.
Feilong nodded. «Let’s land on that meadow down there.»
Feilong’s landing looked more like that of an albatross than a dragon. He stumbled and fell over.
His mother grinned. «You’ll learn to land too. It just takes practice.»
Feilong picked himself up and looked around. He saw lots of small clouds on the meadow, very small clouds, and they had four legs.
He took a running start and was about to jump right through them. His mother didn’t manage to stop him in time.
