34 – In Love’s Claws

 

Long Hai came running. She saw that Father had both wings around other dragons. To reach them even faster, she went into a flying run: half flight and half stride.

«What happened?» she asked, worried.

«The heat. Feilong and Great-Grandpa, and I as well, need to get somewhere cool as quickly as possible. First we go upwards, and then we will spend the night on a high mountain,» Father explained.

She laid a concerned wing on him, then drew it back. «All right, you are not too weak yet to carry Feilong.»

She handed him the cloth, then looked towards Great-Grandpa. «Will you manage, or shall I give you a little energy?»

«I only need to go straight up as quickly as possible. Up there I can take in energy. You should keep your own strength. But my heartfelt thanks for offering,» said Great-Grandpa.

Great-Grandpa was already heading upwards while Mother helped Feilong onto Father’s back and tied him on.

«See you at home,» said Father.

«Yes, set off. Feilong is safe in your claws. I love you both.» She placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

Father gave a brief farewell to Long Ziran before taking off with Feilong, climbing higher.
