33 – When Air Turns to Fire

«Do you still have enough strength to hold on to me while we fly?» Grandpa asked Feilong, then looked towards his father. «Or do you have a cloth we could use to fasten him to me?»

His father looked at him carefully. «What are you planning? Where do you want to take him?»

The father placed his second wing gently on Grandpa’s back.

«Upwards first, it’s cooler up there,» Grandpa said calmly.

«Oh no! I didn’t think of that,» his father replied. «But you’re already weakened by the heat yourself. You won’t manage to carry the boy as well. And I can’t give you any energy, because the heat is getting to me too.»

«Is something wrong?» a worried voice asked. Feilong looked up. It was Long Ziran.

«Ah, I can see it now,» Ziran said. «Ice dragons and heat are not a good mix. Is there anything I can do to help?»

«Yes,» said Grandpa. «Where are the nearest higher mountains? How far away are they?»

«Could you find my wife?» Feilong’s father asked.

Long Ziran called over one of the dragons who were helping with the celebration. «Please find Long Hai as quickly as possible. Tell her to come here at once to her son and her husband,» he said firmly.

Then he turned back to Grandpa. «The nearest high mountains aren’t too far away. Will you be flying through the air or through the water?»

«Through the air,» said Grandpa and Feilong’s father at the same time.

Long Ziran explained to them where the mountains could be found.
