39 – Finally Home

Image
There was a knock at the door. «Come in,» called Father. The door opened, and Mother’s head appeared. «Mama!» cried Feilong happily. «Hello, my son. I see you’ve arrived safely. Welcome home.» She stepped inside, gently wrapped a wing around him, and smiled. «So, do you like it here?» «Yes, very much. But I feel as though my head might burst from all the things I’ve learnt over the last three days.» Mother laughed softly. «Then you should rest for a while. You’ve got a few weeks to take it all in before school begins. I’ve brought quite a lot of luggage that I still need to unpack. See you later. Have a little sleep.» «I will, Mama. And thank you.» «Thank you?» she asked, surprised. «For giving me all these adventures,» he replied, turning to his father. «And thank you too, Papa.» Father smiled, touched. ...

38 – Where the Wind Calls Home

Image
Feilong stepped into the house. It was large and filled with light. A gentle wind drifted through the rooms, wrapping everything in a sense of living ease. Father led him through the different areas and introduced the staff. To Feilong’s surprise, his other grandma was there too, Father’s mother. She greeted him warmly and told him that Grandpa was away for the moment. His aunt also lived here. To Feilong, it felt as though an incredible number of dragons lived in this house. Father opened a large door. Behind it lay Feilong’s new room. It was airy and bright, with a breathtaking view over the city. Feilong was overwhelmed. So many new impressions, so many unfamiliar faces. But as he looked around, he felt a pull in his chest. He missed his mother. Father noticed at once. «You miss your mother, don’t you?» he asked gently. Feilong nodded silently. «Didn’t Grandma tell you where Grandpa has gone?» Feilong shook ...

37 – Where the Wind Whispers of History

Image
Feilong looked around in wonder. The city reminded him of the one he and his mother had flown over on his very first day, only now they were floating right in the midst of it, surrounded by gentle winds. A pleasant breeze carried with it the scent of freedom and open skies. Father manoeuvred skilfully through the drifting streets. At last, he stopped in front of an impressive building. «This is the Academy of the Winds,» he explained solemnly. «This is where you will go to school.» Feilong gazed at the building in awe. Its smooth, bright walls seemed to be shaped from the wind itself, and the towers turned gently with the current. Father flew on, turning two corners, until they reached another large building. «This is where we live,» he said, then laughed softly. «Why are you still sitting on my back? You can fly perfectly well by now. Why did I carry you the whole way?» Feilong blinked in confusion. «You didn...

36 – The Hidden Realm of the Winds

Image
Feilong climbed onto Father’s back and tied himself on. Together they rose straight up into heights beyond imagination. The flight seemed to last twice as long as any climb before. The air up here was barely noticeable; everything felt still and boundless. Father kept releasing bursts of wind to move forward, and Feilong followed his example. Then he noticed something ahead – a sphere surrounded by a shimmering shell of air and light. It seemed alive, as if it were breathing. «That’s where we live,» explained Father, nodding towards the direction they were heading. The closer they came, the clearer Feilong could see that inside the glowing sphere lay a city, floating in endless space. His heart began to beat faster, excitement flowing through him. Father flew straight into the bubble of light. << Back Contents Next >>   © 2025 S. Holzgraefe (miracee). All rights reserved. Reproduction in a...

35 – The Breath of the Sky

The higher they climbed, the better Feilong felt. He was still weak, but he began to feel more and more at ease. There, waiting for them, was Great-Grandpa, wings spread wide, lost in meditation. «Can we go higher?» he asked. «If you think you can manage, we should,» Father replied. «Yes,» said Great-Grandpa, straightening up before shooting straight upwards. «Feilong, hold on! We’re going straight up now!» Father warned. Feilong gripped even tighter, and in the next moment they too rose straight up like lightning. «Oh, wonderful!» cried Great-Grandpa in relief as they reached him. «That feels good.» «It’s more than icy cold up here,» Father muttered. «Don’t make such a fuss. Your son seems to be enjoying it,» teased Great-Grandpa. «Feilong, how are you feeling?» asked Father. «Much better. Are we flying tandem again?» Father...
