12 – Who Am I?

«And what are you?» Feilong now wanted to know from his father.
«Do you know what I am called?»
Feilong thought for a moment. Had he ever heard anyone say his father’s name? A faint memory stirred in his mind.
«Long Feng?» he asked cautiously.
«Wow! Who told you that? That’s right. I am Fenglong: a dragon of the wind. That’s why my scales are so light, white, and a little grey in some places,» his father replied.
«And because you live in the air, you have trouble with damp places,» Feilong observed.
His father nodded. «That’s right.»
«But then what am I?» Feilong asked curiously.
«You are, for now, Long Fei, or Feilong, the flying dragon. What you will become will reveal itself as you continue to grow. It’s already clear that you’re not a water dragon. But you’re not a pure wind dragon either.»
«Usually, water and wind together make ice. Perhaps you will become a Binglong: an ice dragon. But it could also be that, over time, you’ll lose your water traits and become a wind dragon after all.»
«We don’t know yet. It will become clear over the coming years. As you grow older, it will be revealed what kind of dragon you are meant to be.»
