16 – Vertical Dive

The father plunged headfirst downwards at lightning speed. Feilong felt as if parts of his body couldn’t keep up and were still somewhere behind him.
He had his eyes closed.
«Wheeeee! Ahhhhhh! Wheeeee! Ahhhh!» he shouted at the top of his voice.
The father stopped abruptly and levelled out.
«Are you all right?» he asked.
Feilong straightened himself up.
«Yes, Papa. That was amazing fun!»
His father smiled. Feilong looked around. They were above the clouds. But these clouds looked thicker than the ones he had seen before.
The father untied the cloth.
«You can fly on your own again now, my son,» he said.
Feilong lifted himself off his father’s back and began to fly on his own again.
«If you like, you can go ahead and fly through the cloud layer. You’ll see a small rock formation rising from the water. That’s where the others are. But be careful. Those clouds look as if it might rain.»
«What’s rain?» Feilong asked.
«It’s lots of tiny drops of water that fall from the clouds to the ground. A bit like the waterfall in front of the cave: not as much water, but still… well, water. Be careful.»
Feilong looked at him, slightly nervous.
«You don’t need to be afraid,» said his father softly. «I’ll be right behind you. Just give me a brief moment to myself. I need to gather my thoughts. It’s been a very eventful day for me as well.»
