22 – I Know My Two Men

In the corridor, they met Mother coming towards them.

«You look nice and dry,» she greeted them.

«Many thanks for making sure we could make some wind,» Father replied, looking at her with affection.

«I know my two men,» she countered with a smile.

«Fenglong, I still have a few things to discuss with my brother. Would you be so kind as to show Feilong his room?» she asked.

«Of course,» he said. Then, looking at her with concern, he added,
«Are you all right?»

«Yes. What makes you think I might not be?»

Father looked at her seriously.
«The fact that Feilong doesn’t have much water dragon in him.»

Mother burst out laughing.
«Oh no! Everything’s fine. I’m actually glad he’s more of a wind dragon than a water dragon. I’ve known that for quite some time. It was obvious the day you two kept that fan in the back of the cave running for half the day.»

«Oh my goodness!» Father exclaimed, throwing his head back.
«How did I not see that? Of course! If he were a water dragon, he would have spat water, not air!»

Father turned his head towards Feilong.
«Even if his wind is icy cold.»

Mother looked at the two of them.
«I’ve wondered myself if he might have a touch of ice dragon in him.»

Father looked at them both now.
«Let’s just wait and see what becomes of our Feilong. You go to your brother, and we’ll do a room inspection.»

«All right,» said Mother, turning to leave.
«I love you both,» she said before she disappeared from sight.
